November 7 -- Monday
Finally some sleep! A whole 7 hrs. but still woke up early due to the time difference. Still haven't figured out what time it is back in the US. Had left over pizza for breakfast & almost had a heart attack in the shower. I didn't realize the hot & cold handles in the shower were reversed & the water was ice cold. Tracy thought it was funny. Yea. We walked to the cable car & took it up to the top of Wellington (Welly). It's got a good view. We walked down thru the city's botanical garden. Nice little 3 hr. walk. Tried to get a burrito for lunch but the place was closed. Instead I had a curry chicken pie-delicious! Bought 2 bottles of wine in case the ferry broke down. We hustled down to the waterfront & caught the Bluebridge ferry to Picton on the South Island. What a smooth ride. I tried to nap, but Tracy kept talking & wouldn't let me sleep. Something about me snoring. Not sure what she was talking about. We picked up our Nissan Tiida in Picton (bet you never heard of it) & plotted our way to the Gables B&B all of 1 mile away. I bet Tracy we would get lost at least once within the 4 turns we needed to make. She said no way. After circling the block twice I pulled over & we had an intense discussion about where we were & then I looked across the street about 20 ft. away & saw 2 foot high letters on a wall announcing the Gables. As we pulled up in the driveway Paula the owner came to the car. She wanted to know who the giggling girl was laughing so hysterically. I only know one person who is worse with directions than I. You can guess who. We went to Seumus Irish bar for a pint & then to Le Cafe. Had glasses of NV Johnanneshof blanc de noir & '09 First Landing Especial Reserve Sauv. Blanc w/fresh grilled Moki, fish soup & chocolate truffles w/'08 Konrad Noble Two Reisling/Sauv.blanc dessert wine-priceless while over looking the harbor.
